Wow, it's . . . Career Pillar!

While a need for employment skills often begins in high school, few receive the instruction necessary to outmatch the competition. The Fresno County Public Library can help with our newest database – a career coach with massive resources that can help you gain a position in the workforce.  Known as Career Pillar, this innovative and interactive series of videos and lessons is a must.

Take a look at Career Pillar yourself, provided free through our database collection. The assortment of skills covered is impressive. Inside we find strategies for how to thrive in any interview situation by boosting self-awareness and confidence, discovering what makes you unique and learning how to breeze through those common tricky questions. Career Pillar talks with you, walks you through the interview process and plays the part!  It is available free to Fresno County Public library card holders. An email address is required. WoW! It's. . .Terrance V. Mc Arthur!

I’m Terrance V. Mc Arthur, and I’m a WoW! Community Librarian. “WoW!” stands for “Library WithOut Walls.” Instead of staying in the library and waiting for people to come to us, the WoW! team contacts businesses, not-for-profits, churches, and school districts to raise library awareness. Our goal is to help people use all the resources the library offers for free. All you need is a library card…and that’s free, too!

When we talk to the public about library services and resources, we find that many people haven’t heard about all the ways the Fresno County Public Library can help them.

·         Books—We have them: Hardback, paperback, audiobooks on CD, and even EBOOKS.

·         Music—CDs from rock to classical to rap to comedy.

·         DVDs—Movies and documentaries, from popular hits to classics, to specialized topics.

·         Video Games—Entertainment for all ages and many platforms.

·         Online Services—The library has resources that you can use on your computer, phone, or portable device for free:

o   Genealogy—Grow your family tree with Ancestry Library Edition.

o   Car Care—Use Chilton’s Online, AllData, or Auto Repair.

o   Contact Lists for Sales—Reference USA.

o   More than 30 additional databases and online resources.

Why Do We Do This?

I became a librarian because I love to help people find answers, and the library has the resources to answer most questions. The WoW! librarians are here to teach people how to use the library’s tools. If you know how to look, you can find the next answer for yourself! WoW!
